Stop Making These Fashion Mistakes! They Make You Look Older

While it is true that your age does not define you, your clothing choices can add years to your appearance inadvertently.

Because your clothes influence your first impression on others, knowing your style and having a wardrobe that reflects your personality and supports the image you want to project is critical. It can be difficult to navigate style and decide which pieces work best for you as we age and our styles and bodies change.

Multiversity identified a few common fashion mistakes that many women make as they age, which may make you look older without your knowledge. Check them out.

Poor Undergarments

Wearing the wrong undergarments, regardless of age, can detract from your elegance. Complete your wardrobe with supportive and well-fitting undergarments for a polished look.

A properly fitted bra can make you appear taller and younger. The space between your breasts and your hip will significantly reduce if you wear the wrong bra size.

See a professional to ensure that your bra fits properly, that the straps do not dig, that the band is properly placed, and that the band and cups are the correct sizes.

Choose seamless knickers without visible panty lines to feel confident in light-coloured, form-fitting pants.

Hair and makeup that are out of date

We can't just look at your clothes and ignore your hair and makeup. This, like your wardrobe, requires regular updating. As we age, the severe bob or long straight hair we wore in our 30s may no longer suit us.

Softer, layered hairstyles that gently frame the face look better, but if you feel more fabulous rocking a 60s-inspired bob, go for it!

Makeup should be highlighted as well. More natural looks are more flattering, so a less is more mantra will be your best friend.

Be wary of anything pearlised; it tends to settle in crevices and highlight every wrinkle.

Avoid wearing anything oversized.

The aesthetics of many brands are oversized and loose. It's a popular look that's very comfortable but difficult to master. Select pieces that are loose but not overpowering. Experiment with wearing oversized on one half of your body at a time. Voluminous tunics paired with oversized trousers can give the impression that you're trying to conceal something.

Choose slim-fitting bottoms and an oversized top. Alternatively, a slim-fitting top with oversized trousers. Some of your body silhouettes must be visible, or you risk appearing larger and older than you are.

Too much, too matchy

Coco Chanel famously said, "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off." The truth is that wearing too many statement accessories can make you look older. Matching accessories can achieve the same effect.

Break up your jewellery sets. Wearing matching earrings, necklaces, and bracelets is not acceptable. Many women adore the bohemian look and believe "more is more." This is a personal preference, so wear whatever makes you feel confident. If you can pull off full-on accessories, go for it and enjoy it.

There you have it, our top 5 mistakes making you look older that you should avoid. Check out the Multiversity store if you are guilty of some of these sins and would love to upgrade your closet.
